Dr. Alan K. Betts
Climate Scientist
Dr. Alan Betts of Atmospheric Research in Pittsford is a climate scientist. He is a frequent speaker on climate change issues around the state, a commentator for Vermont Public Radio, and a columnist for the Sunday Environment section of the Rutland Herald and Montpelier Times-Argus. He is a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union, the American Meteorological Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and a past president of the Vermont Academy of Science and Engineering. The mission of Atmospheric Research, founded in 1979, is to understand the earth’s weather and climate, to develop improved earth system models and to help society understand the deep challenge that global climate change presents to humanity.
David Dunn
CVPS
Dave is a graduate of Cornell University with a degree in animal science. He began his career at CVPS working primarily on farm energy efficiency, and helped hundreds of farms reduce energy costs, improve product quality and animal comfort, and improve the bottom line. Dave also holds a patent on SmartDrive, a variable speed pump control that significantly reduces power costs for milking, which won the Governor's Award for Excellence in 2001.
He led the team that developed CVPS Cow PowerTM and the CVPS Renewable Development Fund which, through grants, is focused on developing new renewable energy systems on farms across Vermont. CVPS Cow Power won the Governors Award for Environmental Excellence in 2006 along with Blue Spruce Farm, and the US Department of Energy Utility Green Power Program
of the year in 2009.
Dave also leads CV efforts in renewable education, and customer outreach related to renewable generation. He is leading a diverse stakeholder group to develop an advanced biomass fueled combined cycle generating facility for South Central Vermont to achieve both renewable energy goals and deferral of investments in electric transmission and distribution facilities.
